The National Academy of Music is a public educational charity organized under the laws of the State of Colorado. The Academy has been granted federal tax-exempt status by the US Department of the Treasury/IRS, under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and license-exempt status by the Colorado Department of Higher Education/DPOS, under section 12-59-104(1)(p) of the Colorado Revised Statutes.

The mission of the National Academy of Music is to promote, support and advance the art and science of music and to encourage and motivate musicians of all ages, nationalities and levels of ability through the provision of goals and the measurement of progress.

Today, the Academy operates as an international learned society, an honorific association of musicians dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of music. The Academy elects to its honorary membership distinguished musicians in recognition of their exceptional achievements, services or contributions to music.

The Academy is an all-volunteer organization. Volunteers are the heart of the National Academy of Music and play a vital role in the capacity and success of the organization. None of our directors, officers, partners and members receive any compensation for services rendered to the organization or any other benefit from the organization.

The Academy's registered office is based in Colorado, USA and its international secretariat office is based in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The Academy oversees the entire process of the International Music Prizes™ and awards the Prizes to the winners.
