Video-Recorded Audition Guidelines
Entrants are required to submit a video-recorded audition on their chosen instrumental or vocal category. The performance should be recorded as a ‘live’ audition. A quiet room or studio must be used. Every effort must be made to ensure that the entrant is not disturbed by outside noise. The room or studio can be of any size, but with sufficient space to enable entrants to perform effectively. Every effort should be made to tune the piano for your performance. This is especially important for solo piano submissions and piano accompaniments. Good quality digital pianos may be used in the solo piano category from Level 1 to Level 3 only (they may not be used in Levels 4 and 5). Digital pianos may be used for accompaniment only at any category and at any Level of difficulty.
Use a fixed point of view for your camera with the entrant auditioning being the main focus. Shoot straight on, leaving the camera in one location. The picture must remain stationary without any panning, fade-in/fade-out or close-up techniques or use of multiple cameras. Camera may be no closer than waist up. For instrumental submissions, place the camera so that your instrument and your hands/fingers are clearly visible while playing. If you are playing or singing from memory, please be sure there is no music on the stand. Do not state your name and do not make any other comments. Edits between movements and pieces are allowed. Do not edit within the piece. No sound enhancements are allowed. For the best audio quality, entrants are encouraged to use external microphone(s).
After you complete your video recording, you must upload it into a computer in a video file format and in the highest quality possible. We prefer video files saved in one of the following formats: AVI, MPEG, MOV, FLV, WMV. Most computers come with some sort of video editing application already installed, such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. By using these programs, you can easily edit your video. There are also more advanced editing programs available for purchase or download.
After you submit your online entry form, we will send you an email message with instructions on how to submit electronically your video file. Your video file must be submitted no later than October 1, 2011. If your video file is larger than 2GB, you may need to split it into smaller parts and submit them separately. The purpose of the video-recorded audition is to provide an opportunity for you to represent as accurately and positively as possible your musical accomplishments and potential.
